Breed: same dictionary entry in vet and farm systems

Each field on a record is an entry in Technology DNA's shared dictionary. Press the same field label in two different systems and the same entry opens, with the same permanent identifier. This is native interoperability: the two systems share the dictionary, not code.

What you will see

  1. The dictionary entry Breed opens from a dog in the vet's system.
  2. The same entry, with the same permanent identifier, opens from a cow in the farm's system.

About 2 minutes. There is no sign-up. Each system asks you to choose a user.

What to try

  1. Open Breed in Oakfield Veterinary

    1. In Oakfield Veterinary, choose Tom Iqbal.
    2. Open Clients & Patients, then Biscuit, Rosa Mendez's dog.
    3. Press the field label Breed. Field labels that open an entry have a dotted underline.

Result The dictionary entry Breed opens. It shows its place in the dictionary, its permanent identifier, and how many of the ten demonstration systems use it.

  2. Open Breed in Brookfield Farm

    1. In Brookfield Farm, choose Margaret Ellis.
    2. Open Livestock, then the cow UK112233 100002.
    3. Press the field label Breed.

Result The same entry opens, with the same permanent identifier. The vet's dog and the farm's cow use one dictionary entry for breed.

What this shows about Technology DNA

  • The two systems were built separately. Each uses the dictionary's entry for breed, so both systems mean the same thing by breed.
  • The company that built the ten systems made the list of systems that use each word, from its own files. No system on Technology DNA can see what another system has declared.
