Same Thing, Different Words
Brookfield Farm and Meadow Lane Motors use different words for the same thing. The farm says "Maintenance Record". The garage says "Service Record". One link in Technology DNA's shared dictionary says the two words mean the same thing. So when the farm's system asks for the maintenance records of its sprayer, it receives the service record the garage wrote and chose to share.
These are the live systems. Other visitors can see what you record.
What to try
In Brookfield Farm, choose Margaret Ellis, the owner. Open Machinery (on a phone, and in the frame above, it is under More), then the Househam AR Sprayer. Under "Maintenance records" is an interim service. Meadow Lane Motors recorded it in its own system.
Click the heading "Maintenance records". The dictionary entry opens: Maintenance Record, "Also called: Service Record". Then click "Service Record", shown under "Record type" on the garage's record. That entry opens: Service Record, "Also called: Maintenance Record". Two entries, two permanent identifiers, one meaning.
In Meadow Lane Motors, choose Rob Ellis, the technician. In My Bay, press Open on the job for AB21 TRC, the John Deere, then press Record service. Saving the service can take up to a minute. When the button no longer reads "Recording", open the John Deere 6155R in Brookfield Farm. Your service is at the top of its maintenance records within five seconds.
What this demo shows about Technology DNA
- The shared dictionary holds each word as its own entry, with a permanent identifier. Maintenance Record and Service Record are two entries, added by two different systems.
- A synonym link says two entries mean the same thing. Any system can link a word it added to another entry with the same meaning. The farm's system made this link.
- When the farm's system lists a machine's maintenance records, it asks the dictionary which entries mean the same as its own word, then reads the records of all of them.
- Nobody wrote a mapping between the two systems, and the garage's system records a service exactly as it did before the link existed.
- Each business keeps its own records. The garage cannot change the farm's machine record, and the farm cannot change the garage's service record.
